EW YORK -- Curtain up. Broadway raced to reopen for business Thursday after stagehands and theater producers reached a tentative agreement, ending a crippling strike that kept more than two dozen shows dark for 19 days.

Renovation plans consist of repainting the cafe, bringing in new furniture, including new table tops and more comfortable seating, curtains, a bookshelf to store used books and board games, new throw rugs, lamps and even updating the menu with pastries and baked goods that, according to Bruno, will make the cafe more 'bakery-driven.'
'We're also going to try to bring in some organic and whole foods to try to appeal to people looking for those types of foods,' Bruno said.
According to Bruno, it is difficult to compete with the meal plan that students use on campus, as it does not currently allow for students to use points at the cafe. Candles are to blame for a fire that broke out in an Austin home Monday.

At 11:48 a.m., police officers and the Austin Fire Department responded to the fire at 1406 Third Ave. S.W., where they saw smoke billowing out the front door.

According to Police Chief Paul Philipp, two candles on a window sill lit the curtains on fire, which the 87-year-old woman who lives at the home tried to put out with a rug.

The woman could be heard yelling inside the house, said Philipp. A short time later, the woman exited the home unharmed.

An estimate of damages was not available.

According to Philipp, candle-related fires have accounted for more than $1 million in damages in the Austin area in the past few years.

The Indiana Legislature earlier approved $1.6 million for the new play and to upgrade the 22-year-old, 1,500-seat covered Lincoln Amphitheatre at Lincoln State in Spencer County.

Our board has a lot of work to do between now and June 2009, said Will Koch, who heads the drama association.

Lincoln's character was forged right here in Southern Indiana, he said. We want the new play to leave the audience with the understanding that the boy who lived here from ages 7 to 21 became such a remarkable president in large part due to what he experienced and learned here.

Brooklyn cook found dead

Neighbors feared the worst when a man who sold home-cooked meals out of his apartment stopped answering the door.

The 58-year-old was found dead Tuesday in his Bedford-Stuyvesant flat, cops said.

'No one had seen or heard from him for days. You just had a bad feeling, like something bad had happened,' said David Lewis, 42, a neighbor on Decatur St. 'His curtains were closed and he was nowhere to be seen.'

Cops responding to a 911 call found the cook dead with a head wound in his second-floor apartment about 4:15 p.m., cops said. His name was not immediately released.

No weapons were recovered and there were no signs of forced entry, police sources said

Giving evidence by video link from Adelaide, where she now lives, M said Southall had repeatedly asked her how the older boy died and she demonstrated using a pencil and a shoelace. She told the panel that Southall looked at her and said 'very clever' in a sarcastic voice.

The boy was found hanging from a curtain rail. Southall said to her, she continued, sobbing: 'I put it to you that you killed your son by injecting him, hanging him up, leaving him there and then ringing an ambulance.'

On Sunday night, Fire Commissioner Barry Fisher said the fire had been intentionally set and its cause was being considered arson.
City police said this morning no arrests have been made and the investigation into the fire is ongoing.
Miller said firefighters found PVC pipe, vinyl shower curtains and a throw rug burning in a bathtub. The fire heavily damaged the bathroom, he said.

Twenty-one storefront windows were draped in red curtains earlier this month to mask the construction efforts of their holiday displays. The new tables are behind curtains in the middle of the main gaming floor, and won't be unveiled until the morning of Dec. 17.

A house in Bath was almost destroyed after an student tried to stop a blaze by throwing lit curtains on to a conservatory.The small fire had originally started in a waste paper bin in an first floor bedroom in the Lyndhurst Road property. It was caused by a cigarette which had not been put out properly.The home in Oldfield Park was occupied by four students.One of them tried to dampen the small blaze out with an extinguisher and realised a minor fire had spread to the curtains in the bedroom.
The curtains were then thrown from the bedroom window and landed on the conservatory below.The heat melted the roof of the conservatory, which dripped down and set fire to the conversatory and spread to the kitchen and downstairs bathroom causing considerable damage.The upstairs bedroom was also damaged in the blaze.Fire officers were called to the scene by which time all four occupants were outside.They used three pumps and a turntable ladder to tackle the blaze.An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said the incident highlighted two major safety issues.'Firstly if you are going to smoke in your home make sure you extinguish the cigarette properly.'And if you do come across a fire, close the door and get everyone out and call 999.'

Q I'M not an interfering neighbour but I am worried about a family beside me.

They have four kids, two are at school, one at nursery and the wee one is home with her mum all day.

This is a friendly neighbourhood but these kids are never out playing.

The curtains are left closed all day and we never see them.

The parents don't talk to anyone either. Am I being a busybody or should I tell someone I don't think things are right in that house?

A MAYBE, given some of the horror stories we've had, there should be more busybodies.

But if there was anything wrong, hopefully the nursery or health visitor would have noticed

To the right of the Q-A team is the management offices with nice views of the downtown core and Boulevard de Maisonneuve.

Just beyond the management offices is the nitty gritty of the operations, the development area.

No development office is complete with a punching bag in the middle of the room, wait a punching bag? 1) It s a great stress reliever 2) It s better than an office dog that is much more distracting and doesn t chew on network cables.

Next to the breakroom is a full shower facility for those downtown core dwellers who bike to the office during the summer months. The lunch room is quite large with a great view of the downtown core for the next year; that is until a condo project next door comes up and they ll end up looking into someone s bedroom (buy curtains folks).

That pretty much sums up the press event, there was a great amount of delicious food and drink to satisfy the fairly large crowd attending the event. LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AFP) Legendary ballet choreographer Maurice Bejart received a final curtain call four days after his death, as friends and family gathered for a farewell ceremony in Lausanne Monday.

The curtain rose and dropped twice on Bejart's coffin, bathed in a stark light and flanked by possessions loved by the artist, amid strains of classical and Indian music at the city's art-deco Metropole performance hall.

Born in France and famed worldwide for both his avant-garde style and his desire to reconnect ballet to the masses, Bejart died in a hospital in his adopted Lausanne Thursday at the age of 80.

On Sunday, hundreds of people waited patiently in line at the Metropole to pay their last respects to Bejart.

He is to be cremated Tuesday in Lausanne and the urn containing his ashes will be given to his family, according to a spokesman for his Bejart Ballet company.

Forward Air Agrees To Acquire Curtains Assets Of Black Hawk Freight Services - Update [FWRD]

11/26/2007 4:46:24 PM Forward Air Corp. (FWRD), a provider of surface transportation and logistics services, said Monday its subsidiary, Forward Air, Inc., agreed to acquire certain assets of the privately held Black Hawk Freight Services, Inc.

For the year ended December 31, 2006, the Milan, Illinois-based Black Hawk generated revenues of $30 million, according to the Forward Air.

Commenting on the acquisition, Bruce A. Campbell, Chairman, President and CEO of Forward Air said that the respective operations of both the companies are a good fit on many levels.

The Greeneville, Tennessee-based Forward Air expects Black Hawks' cartage operations to support its Forward Air Complete initiative and widen the geographic footprint of its pool distribution operations.

Bejart had been born in Marseille in France in 1927 but had lived in Lausanne in Switzerland since 1987 when he launched his Bejart Ballet Lausanne.

He had made the city of Lausanne his home and had been granted the honorific title 'honorary citizen' 10 years ago. He was formally accepted as a Swiss citizen earlier this year. He died Thursday.

He had been in and out of hospital for several weeks suffering from heart and kidney problems.

The Mayor of Lausanne, Daniel Brelaz had opened the ceremony saying: 'The Swiss lose a friend and an ambassador in the world.' Then the curtain rose to reveal the coffin.

Weyergans revealed that Bejart was working on his next project during his final days despite his illness, a ballet inspired by the German actress Marlene Dietrich. A film of her performing 'I get a kick out of you' was played to the gathering.

The ceremony was the final act for Bejart. His coffin had been on display since Sunday allowing several hundred members of the public to file past and write their messages in the books of condolence

On a more serious note, Dearlove told participants in the competition about the complex new threats the world faces.

When the band moved back to the main stage, they walked through the crowd...big mistake! The boys were totally accosted by fans trying to touch their idols and security had a real job on their hands to keep them at bay. After about five minutes they appeared back on the main stage with their shirts ripped and looking a bit taken aback!

The highlight of the night was Never Forget as the band interacted with a video projected onto curtains. One of the strengths of Embrace Iowa is that it helps 'fill in the gaps' for families, Ross said.

This is the second time that the Burks have been helped by Embrace Iowa. In 1993, the program helped buy Burk a sewing machine, which she used to sew curtains and her children's clothes.

Schweitz resigned from his job to work on Seasonalife full-time.

Before the 1980 Winter Olympics was held in Lake Placid, Schweitz spent 18 months capturing more than 1,600 structures there for a map. He was contracted to work with ABC Sports and the map was given to Olympic gold medal winners.
Schweitz loves photographing residences whose exteriors show the care owners have for them. He remembers photographing a Federal-style home in Cazenovia, Madison County, when the owner asked what he was up to.
Before Schweitz could take another picture, she went inside to pull the window curtains together for the photo � because she was 'house proud.'
That's the type of pride Schweitz hopes to capture with Seasonalife.

'I would just go out to do this for the smiles,' he says.

Phthalates (pronounced 'THAL-ates') are the chemicals that make plastic flexible and allow creams and personal-care products to hold their smell. U.S. chemical companies produce more than 2 billion pounds of these compounds a year. They are commonly found in nail polishes and hair sprays, shower curtains and even Halloween costumes.

For more than a decade, government agencies have said that several of these chemicals are safe at levels that people are exposed to every day.

Chemical makers have relied on these assurances as proof that their products are safe. They bolster these conclusions with millions of dollars of research and testing.

But the newspaper's review of 258 studies of bisphenol A, a common ingredient in baby bottles, reusable water bottles, eyeglass lenses and DVDs, shows otherwise.

Taha will be best remembered as the man who helped reshape Sarawak football.

In the 1970s, when it was in decline and the management went bankrupt, Taha stepped in.

He founded the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) in 1974, replacing the Sarawak Amateur Football Association, with assistance from the state government. He rewrote the constitution and overhauled the management.

After laying the groundwork, it was in the late 1980s and mid-1990s that Taha reaped the rewards of his hard work.

In the 1990s, then coached by Australian Alan Vest, Sarawak turned from being the whipping boy of Malaysian football into title contenders.

Other honours soon followed. In 1997, Sarawak was crowned Premier League champion and won the Charity Shield in the 1998 season curtain raiser.

In 1999, Sarawak reached the finals of the prestigious Malaysia Cup, its first ever, with Taha at the helm.

A lawyer by training, he obtained his Bachelor of Law from the University of Leeds in Britain.

The tests were part of an experiment sponsored by a group lobbying for legislation to limit the use of toxic chemicals in the Baystate.

In fact, the three toxic chemicals she was tested for are found in so many everyday products - from shower curtains to plastic water bottles and computers - that all 35 people tested had positive results.

Proponents hope the test results will prompt the Legislature to pass 'An Act for a Healthy Massachusetts: Safer Alternatives to Toxic Chemicals.'

The bill would require manufacturers to use less-toxic substitutes if feasible and, if passed, would be the first of its kind in the country, said Danielle Connor, spokeswoman for 'The Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow,' a statewide coalition.

The PCT's deep clean is scheduled to take place before the end of the year, paid for by their 370,600 share of its own money - finance chiefs at the trust were not aware of how much they would get from the Government. The action plan involves dismantling and cleaning all 210 beds across its five hospitals, the cleaning of operating theatres and clinical areas and restoring hospital surfaces, including repainting work.

Other work includes wall washing and high cleaning, window washing, new bed and window curtains which will cost an estimated 161,000, cleaning of cupboards and storage, cleaning trolleys, light fittings and telephone and furniture.

In a statement to the House of Commons, the Health Secretary told MPs that all trusts still have to submit detailed deep clean plans, including costs, to their Primary Care Trusts and Strategic Health Authorities.The SHAs will report on the progress of each trust to the Department of Health.

But some simple, khaki eight-loops-on-the-top, two-tabs-per-window curtains I bought last week.Everything was fine at first.
