District Fire Chief Joe Pruett said the family did not have electricity and was heating the home with candles.
The fire marshal will investigate.
All the damage was in the upper portion of the house.
Many people use kerosene heaters during the cold winter months -- but it is advised to use with caution and not place them near anything flammable, such as curtains, fabric, furniture, or in the range of pets.
