The blaze started in a first-floor front apartment and was believed to be accidental, said Deputy Fire Chief Scotty Williams. The cause of the blaze hasn't been determined and might not be, because of the extent of damage, he said.
Normally, Rodriguez, 56, of Spencerport, travels another route to Chili Avenue, but chose to take Kenwood Avenue on Saturday. 'I guess the Lord put me there,' he said.
Rodriguez said at first it looked like a small fire on some curtains in a first-floor window. Seconds after he called his dispatcher to contact 911, flames were shooting from the window.
'That fire went from zero to 100 in five minutes. I couldn't believe it,' he said.
