'Being an artist is in my heart. It is who I am. It is hard work. I would have liked to spend more time on the banner and put more patterns into the curtains,' Johnquest said of her First Night contribution.

Johnquest, who is director of the Taber Art Gallery at Holyoke Community College, is often referred to by those who know her work as the 'Banner Queen.'

Her signature approach is to do banners in the style of those used to promote the side shows of circuses and adapt them for private residences as well as for corporate clients.

She painted some that were included in Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's 2003 summer tour book

'Everyone owns a couple of pieces and we all come together and assemble the layout,' said David Malueg, 39, of Oostburg, one of the club members. He added that the kids who visit can take a turn at the controls.

Moeller said her father, Francis Van De Loo, now 90 years old, enjoyed bringing the kids to the Prange's window years ago and would probably be down to the museum sometime this weekend to take in the display.

'He won't miss this,' she said.
