In the master bedroom, a four-poster bed, handmade of African mahogany by Schwan's father's millwork shop, has exquisite carved detailing. An ivory matelasse bedspread and collection of pillows finish the bed's look. The guest bedroom exudes casual elegance with its black-and-white toile bedspread and matching curtains, lace doily accents and antique mirror. Schwan said she finds many of her furnishings and accents at local antiques malls and stores.
'I love finding nostalgic pieces,' she said.
In addition to homes, the Story tour includes a sale of handcrafted items, carolers strolling the street and food booths.
Christmas Idea House At the Christmas Idea House, in its 50th year, you can tour a luxury home, then buy the holiday treasures that decorate it.
This year's tour/sale takes place Friday and next Saturday at an 11,000-square-foot custom home in east Mesa.
The home's Old World look will be complemented with exquisite for-sale Santas, trees of different sizes, wreaths, snowmen, gingerbread men, garlands, swags, cookie and soup mixes, and other holiday treasures made by the Desert Club, a non-profit Valley women's organization that sponsors the Christmas Idea House.
A cookbook, featuring new and old recipes and celebrating the 50-year mark, also will be for sale. Proceeds benefit the club's scholarship program and local charities
