Nationwide deep cleans, which include pulling beds apart and scrubbing them, were announced by the Government following the Healthcare Commission Investigation into the C.diff outbreak at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells PCT.
The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages the Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester, the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and Kidderminster Hospital, and the Worcestershire Primary Care Trust, which manages Evesham Community, Malvern Community Hospital, Pershore Hospital and the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Malvern, will benefit.
The PCT's deep clean is scheduled to take place before the end of the year, paid for by their 370,600 share of its own money - finance chiefs at the trust were not aware of how much they would get from the Government. The action plan involves dismantling and cleaning all 210 beds across its five hospitals, the cleaning of operating theatres and clinical areas and restoring hospital surfaces, including repainting work.
Other work includes wall washing and high cleaning, window washing, new bed and window curtains which will cost an estimated 161,000, cleaning of cupboards and storage, cleaning trolleys, light fittings and telephone and furniture.
In a statement to the House of Commons, the Health Secretary told MPs that all trusts still have to submit detailed deep clean plans, including costs, to their Primary Care Trusts and Strategic Health Authorities. The SHAs will report on the progress of each trust to the Department of Health.
Sandra Rote, director of clinical development and lead nurse at the PCT, said: 'The PCT does not have a significant incidence of C.Diff but we are pleased with the initiative from the Department of Health.
'The opportunity to further improve cleanliness to diminish the risk of recurrence is welcome.'
Mike Foster, MP for Worcester, said patients in the city were concerned about standards of cleanliness in the NHS.
He said: 'From what I saw, I know Worcestershire Royal Hospital had made real progress. But the deep cleaning process will help further in driving out MRSA from our hospital.'
A spokesman for the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust could not confirm the precise share of the 9.9 million they would receive
